August 1, 2024DescriptionThe University of Montana Western is seeking a teacher-scholar to serve as the department's primary research methodologist.
We are searching for an instructor who is excited about teaching quantitative research methods and statistics - with a focus on experimental methods - and for someone who is enthusiastic about serving as a research methods consultant for other faculty and for students.
This hire will be expected to teach both lower-division and upper-division courses in psychology at the undergraduate level (three courses each semester).
Beyond teaching courses in research methods and statistics, there is some flexibility in the teaching load, but we require a candidate who will be able to teach courses that complement existing content coverage.
The position may also include directing student capstone experiences.
Montana Western is defined by our Experience One model, in which students and faculty engage with a single course at a time, with a maximum of 25 students enrolled in each course.
Each course meets for an intensive eighteen-day block, with classes meeting for three hours each day (Monday through Friday).
The block schedule allows students time to engage with the authentic practices of the discipline, and Montana Western faculty are expected to create experiential learning environments aligned with that mission.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty at Montana Western generally teach three blocks per semester (a 3-3 teaching load), leaving one block (essentially a month) each semester when faculty can focus on research or other forms of professional development, as well as service activities.
We are searching for candidates who can demonstrate professionalism and good citizenship, evidence of the ability to maintain scholarly productivity, and a commitment to professional service including guiding undergraduate research, advising, assessment efforts, committee work, and other departmental or university duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Minimum qualifications include a Ph.
D.
in Psychology in hand by the start date, with evidence of expertise in statistics and research methods.
Previous experience teaching in a face-to-face setting.
A history of research employing experimental research methods.
Additional Qualifications of Interest (Although These Are Not Required) Experience guiding undergraduate research.
Experience teaching in a time-compressed format.
Experience with online data collection, meta-analysis, and/or big data methods.
