Park Ranger (Off-Highway Vehicles)

Park Rangers (Off-Highway Vehicle) (OHV) support the Bureau's recreation program. Major duties for this position focus on providing the public with Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) information, conduct permit compliance, and safety inspections; responding to OHV emergency situations, greeting riders and providing visitor information and education concerning responsible OHV use on public lands; monitoring use for compliance with BLM travel plan rules and regulations, monitoring for resource damage to roads/trails and are responsible for trail maintenance. Physical/Working Conditions:
Work takes place in extremely remote environments. The work is performed outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; positions require physical exertions, such as, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Individuals should be capable of working alone, or with other people, during early morning hours, night, or during the day. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS:

Demonstrated experience using a Global Positioning System (GPS) to record and determine locations and to safely navigate across difficult terrain. In addition to meeting the selective factor requirements:
For the GS-5 Park Ranger (OHV)- one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; assists in advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention and amenities available; assists with issuing reservations and permits; or assists with monitoring special recreation permits. -OR- Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work. -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. For the GS-7 Park Ranger (OHV)- one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience may include management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; planning day to day operation of a recreation area providing activities/facilities as camping, water sports, or picnic areas, or coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel; advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper and authorized uses of recreational facilities; and collecting fees. -OR- Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation (i.e. related course work) or superior academic achievement. -OR- A combination of experience and education to meet total experience. Related Course Work -- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science related to the protection of public lands, social sciences, museum sciences, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly relates to the duties performed by a Park Ranger. Specialized
Experience:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
